Brief Brand History for Cartier
The history of Cartier is fantastic, as it invented many styles of watches that are still produced today. Founded in 1847 by Louis-Franois Cartier, this company was originally a jewelry boutique. The first wrist watch made by Cartier was called the Santos Dumont named after the Brazilian Aviator in 1904. 2 years later, Cartier began experimenting with jewel – encrusted watches. 1917 saw the introduction of the famous Cartier Tank watch. Long regarded as the single most important and influential watch design of the 20th century, the distinctive timepiece was designed in tribute to the Allied Tank commanders who helped defend France during World War I. Today its watches are Swiss-made with French high style.

product line overview
The “Tank”, “Santos”, and “Baignoire” were all created nearly 100 years ago. In the 1980’s the “Panthere” was the watch to wear. The common theme has always been that Cartier is geared more for the women’s market. One model that has done extremely well for men is the “Roadster” and “Roadster Chronograph”. Just recently, in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the “Santos”, Cartier unveiled the “Santos 100”. The "Santos 100" and the "Santos 100 XXL" continue in popularity. Newly released "Ballon Bleu de Cartier" and "La Dona de Cartier" are already much asked for.

Cartier watches

The exquisite design and unmatched elegance of Cartier watches makes them a good choice for anyone looking for a fashionable and precise watch. The story of Cartier watches begins in 1847, when Louis-François Cartier took over the jewelry workshop of Adolphe Picard. Gradually, the business developed and more members of the Cartier family became involved in the company. The excellent blend of usability and style has remained unchanged throughout the years, and the accuracy of the Cartier watches is among the highest in the world. Superior craftsmanship and a unique sense of style have dominated the evolution of this company, but tradition was also flawlessly combined with technological advancements. Cartier revolutionized the watch industry by being the first to attempt the creation of the wristwatch. Their bold move was a huge success and the pocket watch saw a quick decline in favor of Cartier’s wristwatch.

Characteristics of the Cartier Company and their watches

The first wristwatch created by Cartier was available for sale starting from 1911, even though Cartier’s designer had created it years before. The luxury and uniqueness of the Cartier company was also highlighted by the acquisition of the Hope diamond, which was later sold. However, Cartier did not stop with their wristwatch success, and in 1912 they created the first mystery clock. The series of innovations continues with the first series of water resistant watches - the Tanks as they were called – which appeared on the market during the First World War (1933). The Tank had a circular-grained crown set with a sapphire cabochon and the quartz movement and rectangular rail-track make the Tank, even today, one of the most precise and durable watches. Today, the Tank is a more elegant item, mainly because of the 18K yellow gold and 18K white gold casings and the alligator skin straps and pin buckles.
